New doctor for Kyogle

McKID Medical in Kyogle has taken on a new doctor this week to help reduce the waiting periods experienced by patients in the area.

Dr Srikanth Vure will be receiving his first patients today as a general practitioner.

Dr Vure will become the fourth doctor practicing in Kyogle after the retirement of Dr Brian Perry.

According to an assessment made on the area, five doctors are required to support the population of Kyogle. Until the arrival of Dr Vure on Monday, McKid Medical was operating with only three doctors.

“It's always been our target to recruit five doctors for our general practice,” Karen Skinner, McKid Medical's practice manager, said.

“We're hoping to achieve that by the end of the year.

“The waiting period was three or four weeks and now (with doctor Vure) it's down to one.”

Dr Vure moved to Kyogle from Perth seeking a position as a doctor in a rural practice having previously worked in a hospital.

Dr Vure made the move with his wife Sarada and seven-year-old daughter Sriya.

Previously, Dr Vure had worked in Hobart.
