New destination website a hit

CAPRICORN region's new destination leisure website has received 14,509 new customers or unique visitors since its launch in May.

The website was created by Guerrilla marketing for Capricorn Enterprise, one of eight regional tourist organisations in Queensland, which secured funding last year from Tourism Queensland (via the State governments Tourism Network Grant Scheme) to completely rebuild all eight destinational leisure sites themed with the state's official branding "Queensland - Where Australia Shines".

Capricorn Enterprise CEO, Mary Carroll said the sophistication of this new website has seen a 667% increase in traffic during the six months from May to September this year compared to the same time last year.

"Incredibly, 9% of traffic is from mobile devices such as Iphones, Ipads, Blackberries compared to just 1% from this medium on the old site.

"This new site has been solely responsible for 2,400 direct leads to our member operator sites and we can obtain detailed percentage analytics of visitors to each of those individual businesses. More people are searching for specific events in our region including sporting, music, leisure events which also reflects the increased resources our organisation has focused on marketing and supporting our annual regional events" she said.

"Capricorn Coast and Yeppoon are the highest searched key words for the new site, which again reflects market research demonstrating that the leisure brand for our region is the Capricorn Coast and the cities and townships fall beneath that brand.

"This does not take away from individual identities within our Capricorn region, such as Great Keppel Island, Sapphire Gemfields, Carnarvon Gorge, Rockhampton etc, but rather positions and qualifies our headline brand when promoting our destination particularly interstate and internationally," Ms Carroll said.

Of the visitors to the website, 61% were from within Queensland, 18% NSW and 14% Victoria, which reflects the visitor statistics collated by Tourism Research Australia and Tourism Queensland for the Capricorn region.
