New 'curious' art gallery opens up on Northern Rivers

COLLABORATIVE gallery space A Curious Collective is open for business in Brunswick Heads.

The new store features carefully selected vintage homewares, upcycled creations, fashion and art.

It's a new venture run by local women who described themselves as collectors, creators, dreamers and makers.

Their first exhibition, called Carbon Dust, explores the world of art, fashion and interiors in the age of Anthropocene.

Artists Caan Wood and Stefanie Miriklis will be exhibiting work in the space and the women from A Curious Collective have created an installation of vintage wares to suit.

There is an antique apothecary space filled with gorgeous glassware and cabinets of curiosities, and a gorgeous four poster bed piled high to recreate the story of the Princess and the Pea. All of the pieces are for sale.

The curators have recycled, reused and repurposed objects to breathe new life into beautiful pieces that once sat stationary in their utilitarian forms.

Sculptures made from antique dolls and obsolete electronics sit illuminated by pendant lamps made from antique colanders.

Birdcages turned into bohemian chandeliers, vintage fashion and quirky accessories alongside jewellery pieced together from trinkets and chains.

The artists have created a collection of unusual pieces and collaborative works on paper and salvaged canvas, incorporating antique collage material, embroidery and recycled timber frames.

We hope that this exhibition will inspire others to readdress and consider a new way of climate-conscious creative living.

Vintage is the new black in the age of Anthropocene and as humans we are all responsible to help this beautiful garden planet we call home.
