New cricket captains will be keen to make their mark

NEW captains Andrew Lindsay and Mitchell Pickford square off in the first round of Far North Coast LJ Hooker League cricket today.

Lindsay will lead Lennox Head while Pickford has taken on the top job at Alstonville.

The one-day game will be played at Megan Crescent Oval, Lennox Head.

Lennox Head made the semi-finals of the two-day competitionin 2014-15 and are sure to be inthe mix again.

Lindsay, an all-rounder, scored 663 runs and took 13 wickets last season.

He also represented NSW Country in the Australian Country Cricket Championship at Bendigo.

The former Manly first-grader is a more than capable replacement as captain for Todd Fisher, who remains in the side.

Fisher took the Pirates to the two-day final in 2013-14.

Talented wicketkeeper-batsman Lewin Maladay has also been named for Lennox Head along with damaging top-order batsman Dan-iel Emms.

Meanwhile, Pickford steps into the void created by previous skipper Nathan Collins having moved overseas to live with his partner in Finland.

Pickford has played on and off at Alstonville for the past couple of years and has recently moved back to the area from Brisbane.

All-rounders Terry Murphy and Steve Robb will be among the key men for Alstonville this season.

In other games:

Defending premiers Cudgen will host Ballina Bears at Reg Dalton Oval, Kingscliff.

Cudgen beat Ballina in both the one-day and two-day finals last summer.

Top-order batsman Justin Moore and all-rounder Sam Adams will be crucial if Bears are to win first up.

Marist Brothers will be at home to Pottsville at Oakes Oval, Lismore.

Top-order batsman Brad Cleaver will captain a young Brothers side looking to improve on last season.

The Casino Cavaliers take on Tintenbar-East Ballina at Queen Elizabeth Park, Casino.

The Cavaliers are always hard to beat at home and the 'Bar will have to do it without all-rounder Brett Crawford.

Crawford will play second grade after just returning from a week away playing hockey with the NSW Country Over-35 team.

Top-order batsman Nathan Hoey is captain at Tintenbar for the second consecutive season.
