New $48 million bridge is on track

WORK on the new $48 million bridge across the Clarence River at Tabulam is progressing well, according to Lismore MP Thomas George.

He said crews were preparing to start piling for the structure's foundations in the new year.

Mr George said the NSW

Funded by the State Government, the new bridge on Bruxner Highway is part of the Bridges for the Bush program, improving road safety and traffic efficiency.

"The program aims to improve road freight productivity by replacing or upgrading bridges in the next five years at 17 key locations in regional NSW,” Mr George said.

Work completed to date includes; high voltage power-lines relocated, establishment of a borrow site for material to be extracted and re-used on site and building road embankments and access tracks.

"A rock platform will continue to be built to support the large cranes and piling rigs needed to start bridge piling in the New Year,” Mr George.

"Material will continue to be moved from the borrow site at the western end of the project to enable the road approaches to the new bridge to be built.

"Rock from a quarry north of the project site will continue to be brought to site to build temporary access tracks and protection for the bridge piers.”

The project is taking a break for Christmas until January 8.
