Never a dull day

ASTROLOGER Gillianfirst met David through a friend Chris Reynolds on a cruise.

"I was lecturing on astrology and I knew when I met David that something big had happened for me. I just didn't know how big!

"David asked me to marry him the very next morning after I met him. There was a lot of hard work, in the early years, with David's struggles with mental illness."

(He suffers from schizoaffective disorder, characterised by episodes of elevated or depressed mood).

"But after Shine came out, a lot of things changed; it really did impact in the most wonderful way.

"I think for David sharing his pain so publicly helped him enormously.

"His health is great now. He swims two or three times a day, even at night now the weather is so mild."

David also practices on the piano up to five or six hours a day when he is touring.

While Gillian doesn't play a musical instrument, she says she had a good basic knowledge of music when she met David and continues to learn about music as they tour the world.

"We have a very blessed life and we are both so grateful.

"David is very entertaining. and he's a very inspirational and we work so well as a team. Our goals in life are very similar, and yet we are so different

"David is very creative, and I'm more practical. Except I love decorating houses and getting in the garden.

"It's a partnership that absolutely works. I never have to say to him; can we do this, or can we do that?

"I just make my plans. And David is left free to do whatever he wants to do.

"We have both given each other complete freedom and yet, in that, we come together every day."

Gillian says that to see David perform live is an opportunity to witness an extremely talented pianist sharing his passion for music with the audience.

"I have never seen an audience leave David's concerts without being uplifted. If you want a happiness hit, see David perform.

"One critic said that David has the greatest capacity to communicate with an audience. He takes the formality out of classical music and makes it appeal to anyone.

"I believe that it's not just David's talent that gets through to people, it's because he enjoys playing so much and he plays with so much feeling.

"David brings joy, especially to those facing challenges. Again, it's because he cares and he isn't afraid to communicate those feelings."
