Netball carnival a good lead-up to state titles

NETBALLERS from around the district converged on Lismore yesterday for the inaugural Marie Mackney Memorial representative carnival.

The event was named in honour of the Lismore Netball Association’s first life member.

Hundreds of players from six local associations aged 12 years to open played six to eight games each in a non-stop schedule that was ideal preparation for the State titles in June and July.

It was also the first major test of the newly surfaced courts in Ballina Street.

Although the carnival was non-competitive, Lismore Under-15s completed the day undefeated and Lismore Under-13s played with good structure, led by Grace Parsons, Georgie Hampson and Ella Cottee.
