Nation's richest dairy show coming to Bangalow
IT will be spectacular – dairy, dairy spectacular.
Two hundred and seventy cows from as far as Gympie will next week take part in the nation's richest dairy cattle show at Bangalow.
Usually held in conjunction with Primex, this year the spectacular will be a stand-alone, two-day event, and is expected to attract around 6000 people.
Clunes-based farmer Warren Gallagher has already begun training a group of 13 dairy cows for the Dairy Spectacular.
He said that their preparation took a lot more than just washing, clipping and practise leading the animal.
“You really have to know the cows to lead them well,” he said.
Richmond Dairies Executive Officer Chris Sharpe said the event, which has a total prize pool of $38,000, would showcase the nation's best dairy cattle and celebrate the achievements of local dairy farmers and hopefully attract more youth to the industry.
The first day of the festival will be dedicated to youth, and Mr Sharpe said activities would also inform young people about possible careers in the industry.
Each day of the Dairy Spectacular would also be a 'hub of activity' and designed to entertain the whole family, he said.
The Dairy Spectacular will be held at the Bangalow Showgrounds on September 12 and 13 from 9.30am–4pm.
An opening night dinner will also be held at the Bangalow Bowling Club, and tickets can be purchased from the club by calling 6687 1235.
