National champ beaten in Rumble
DAVID Clarke took out the V8 Dirt Modified Jobrow Enterprises Richmond Rumble from national champion Mark Robinson and defending champion Jai Stephenson at Lucas Oil Lismore Speedway Saturday night.
Clarke started near the front of the field and didn't waste his opportunities, recording an impressive victory in a race that ran virtually incident free from start to finish.
Hard-luck story of the Richmond Rumble was Andrew Pezzutti who took over the front running in the early stages of the race.
Pezzutti established a comfortable lead over the rest of the field and as the laps unfolded looked set to take the win, however a flat tyre in the closing stages ruined his chances of victory.
Robinson found himself caught up in traffic in the early laps before he moved clear and in the second half of the event consolidated his runner-up finish.
Stephenson, the defending Richmond Rumble Champion, was always in touch with the front-runners.
It was a tough night for several drivers, including Ray Eggins who rolled his car in the first heat and was sidelined for the rest of the night.
Pre-race favourite Kevin Britten never figured in the main event after he struck problems in a qualifying heat when his car sustained front-end damage and hit the concrete safety wall.
Other main event winners on the night were Bryce Kennedy (Wingless Sprints), Mark Quirk (Street Stocks), Trent Dhu (Four Cylinder Sedans) and Ryan Green (Junior Sedans).
