Napoleon Bonaparte and Josephine show Willing at Cup event

NAPOLEON Bonaparte put in an appearance at Byron Bay for Melbourne Cup festivities yesterday - or at least his alter-ego, performer Jimmy Willing did

"There are a lot of bands that have Elvis impersonators, but we must be the only band that has a Napoleon Bonaparte impersonator," Mr Willing told the crowd at the Railway Friendly Bar.

While Jimmy and the Real Gone Cowboys played to a bevy of can can dancers led by Bertie Page and the Buffalo Gals dressed as Josephine to match Mr Willing's Napoleon, across town high-tea was the theme of the day.

It was all hats, high heels and high tea for amateur punters at the Suffolk Park Hotel for Melbourne Cup.
