Man naked and drink-driving disqualified for a decade

A 61-YEAR-old New South Wales man caught drink-driving, littering and naked in public, only hours after Hervey Bay court had disqualified his licence, is unlikely to ever drive again.

Magistrate Graeme Tatnell said Alan Keith Townsend's alcohol-affected health and age made it unlikely he would regain his licence after his disqualification expired 10 years from now, in 2023.

On September 18, Townsend, who had travelled to Hervey Bay for his sister's funeral, faced court for unlicensed and drink-driving and was disqualified.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Michael Quirk said Townsend was also caught on CCTV driving later that day, naked and littering outside the courthouse.

Townsend spent seven days in custody at the Maryborough Correctional Centre, and missed the funeral.

He was fined a total of $1000 and disqualified from driving for 10 years.
