Mystery over woman's death off Noosa

MYSTERY surrounds the death of a woman whose body was found off a secluded beach near Noosa.

A lifeguard on jet-ski patrol discovered a woman's body in surf at Granite Bay about 2.30pm yesterday.

He was conducting a random patrol off the coastline between Noosa Main Beach and Alexandria Bay.

Police last night were attempting to piece together her final moments.

She reportedly had scratches on her face and her body was discovered not far from a rocky outcrop.

It was thought she may have been rock-climbing earlier that day.

The AGL Action Rescue Helicopter and lifeguards spent three hours searching the water after fears a second person had been accompanying the woman.

Police called off the search for a second person this morning after no further confirmed sightings of a second person were reported.

Police want to speak to anyone who visited Granite Beach yesterday.

The normally popular tourist spot was deserted.

Surf Life Saving Queensland Sunshine Coast services co-ordinator Aaron Purchase said the lifeguard who found the woman called other services to assist.

"They attempted CPR, but she had (already) died," he said.

Ambulance and police officers had to walk the headland to reach the beach.

Mr Purchase said water conditions were not dangerous at the time.

"The water conditions were good," he said. "There were no dangerous rips."
