My Kitchen Rules' Josh and Andi reveal baby plans

LOSING out to the dragons of My Kitchen Rules by just one point should have been devastating for Perth's Josh Maldenis and Andi Thomas.

But the hipster couple revealed on tonight's show that they would have left the competition "win, lose or draw" after discovering Thomas was pregnant.

Their baby, which is due in July, was conceived during filming for the show last year.

"We had an inkling," said Maldenis.

"Andi was feeling quite ill for a fair while, but we never had confirmed it until a couple of days before the challenge."

Unbeknownst to nearly everyone on the show, the couple made the decision to leave before going up against Ashlee and Sophia in the sudden death cook-off.

"What people don't realise is it's 12 to 15-hour days almost seven days a week," he said.

"That's pretty full on for your body. To put her (Andi) under that stress just wasn't worth it."

But they still wanted to go out on a high note, which is why they chose to cook in Kitchen HQ one last time.

"We're both quite competitive people," Maldenis said.

"We both went in knowing we were going but we still didn't want to lose."

Viewers won't see the expectant parents returning this Sunday for Comeback Kitchen, where all of the teams eliminated in the sudden death cook-offs will be given a second chance.

"We decided we definitely weren't going to be coming back," he said.

"That would be even more stressful. We were the only ones who decided to sit that one out."

Maldenis said he imagines the remaining teams will feel "hard done by" when they find out an eliminated team will win a spot back in the finals.

"What I learned from the show was never expect anything is going to happen and always be aware that something will happen," he said.

"There were that many twists and turns we got put through. You can never get too comfortable because they've got more in store."

A two-hour special episode of My Kitchen Rules airs on Sunday on Channel 7.
