Mustangs lose gun players
LOCAL rugby league coaches get the opportunity to run their eagle eyes over their troops with all four clubs participating in trial matches on Saturday.
Tweed Coast Raiders will travel to Galleon Way to face Currumbin, Cudgen Leagues Hornets host fellow Bycroft Cup contenders, Burleigh Heads at Ned Byrne Field and there's a cross-competition clash at Murwillumbah's Stan Sercombe where the Mustangs host GCTRL 2011 premiers, Bilambil Jets.
The Mustangs will once again campaign in the revamped Northern Rivers Regional Rugby League this year but the Raiders and Hornets opted to part company with the NRRRL and link with the Gold Coast Tweed.
Mustangs president, Nigel Lofts, reports the club has lost the services of two of its gun players - workaholic back rower, Corey Maher, and utility back, Ryan O'Connell.
O'Connell has switched camps to play fullback for Byron Bay Red Devils while Maher headed bush to get a job in the mining industry.
