Rocky Horror tribute show

THE Lismore Workers Club does not often see men in fish-net stockings making their way through its front doors.

Nor does the Byron Bay Brewery for that matter.

The cast of Time Warp: A Musical Tribute to The Rocky Horror Show, is inviting the public to put on their red lipstick, dust off their suspenders and shine-up their stilettos and get along to one of the shows in Lismore and Byron Bay this week.

“It might be an idea to pop a trench coat over your fineries if you are coming in drag,” Phillip Lowe, who plays the flamboyant Frank n Furter, says.

“Audience participation plays a big part in the production. There is a competition for the best-dressed audience member and people win prizes. We have had people turn up who are better dressed than the actors on stage.”

The cast of the tribute are some of the most experienced musical theatre performers in the country.

Lowe starred in The Producers, 42nd Street and The Pyjama Game while Anna Rogers (who plays Columbia) has featured in Sweet Charity, The Producers and Crazy For You.

“It’s an excellent cast – there is a real sense of us being a group of troubadours,” Lowe says.

“We have a lot of fun but everyone is incredibly professional, resulting in a show that is incredibly slick.”

Lowe’s dedication to the role saw him sashaying about in stilettos and raiding his girlfriend’s wardrobes.

“It’s a dream role, when you play Frank n Furter, all bets are off,” he says.

“He can do anything he wants – the show is about license and giving yourself over to the pleasures of life.

“It also showed me how good I look in suspenders.”

Catch Time Warp at the Lismore Workers Club tonight at 7.30pm. Tickets $30 on 6621 7401 or at the door. Or get along to the Byron Bay Brewery on March 13. Tickets $25 show or $50 dinner and show on 6685 5833 or at the door.
