Murderer moved after being charged with riot, mutiny

A CONVICTED murderer has been transferred out of Maryborough Correctional Centre after he was charged with riot or mutiny - endangering the security of a facility.

Maryborough's Simeon Frederick Blair, 23, was sentenced to life in prison last year after he was found guilty of murdering Cleveland Paul Clay, 31, with a piece of wood at the back of the Carlton Hotel in the early hours of April 28, 2012.

The circumstances of the fresh charge are unclear.

Defence lawyer Travis George appeared before Maryborough Magistrates Court on Blair's behalf yesterday.

He said his client had been transferred to Brisbane Correctional Centre and the brief of evidence that had been prepared had gone to the wrong prison.

Mr George said his client was "doing life in prison for murder" and asked for an adjournment.

The case was adjourned until June 22 for a full committal hand up, with Blair to appear before the court via videolink.
