Steam train back thanks to Karyn
KARYN GARRARD, of Lismore, loves a train trip. So much so, she is willing to pay $3000 just to ride the tracks.
The aged care nurse is sponsoring the return to the region of the Lachlan Valley Railway steam train to celebrate 100 years of rail between Casino and Kyogle
Ms Garrard said that when she heard the train could not come unless there was a sponsor she asked what was needed.
So now she is underwriting the cost of coal to fuel the train, and the hire of the rail line for the day, so that celebrations for the rail line can go ahead.
Ms Garrard said that she had enjoyed many rail trips over the years with her daughters Kate, 33, and Alison, 35, and that it was a great way for families to spend time together.
“I am keen to do anything that fosters family togetherness,” Ms Garrard said.
Ms Garrard will be riding on the train with her daughters and her grandchildren, Jacob, 3, and Gwen, 4.
The steam train, which recently visited Casino for Beef Week, will be making three centenary train journeys this Saturday.
