New plan could allow camping at Mullumbimby Showground

A PROPOSAL to establish a camping ground is part of a draft plan of management for Mullumbimby Showground.

Ballina MP Don Page said the draft plan was prepared by the Mullumbimby Showground Trust with the financial support of NSW Trade and Investment (Crown Lands) and was now available for public comment.

"Mullumbimby Showground faces a range of management challenges, with aging infrastructure, changing community demands and expectations, and difficulties in remaining financially viable," Mr Page said.

"Much of the infrastructure needs upgrading or eventual replacement.

"The draft plan of management will provide a solid platform to support continuing community stewardship by the trust, with a range of sustainable management strategies that will allow for more flexibility and diversified use of the showground.

"For example, the trust is proposing to establish a primitive camping ground on the reserve to help support the long-term financial sustainability."
