Mr Beef Week has the last laugh

IT WAS only after much good-hearted badgering from his rugby league team mates that Te Ate Jackson agreed to enter Casino's Mr Beef Week competition.

Yet after stripping down to his jocks in front of a few hundred people on Saturday night to Chris Brown's Take You Down, Mr Jackson has the perfect retort for his Cougars' mates – he won.

“They kind of forced me into it,” the shyly spoken Mr Jackson of Casino said. “They kept egging me on, and telling me I had to do it and I eventually cracked.”

“I was quite nervous, but yeah I enjoyed it. My team mates were stoked when I won.”

The 21-year old, originally from New Zealand and now working in the chill room at the Casino Meatworks saw off seven other buffed contestants to walk away with the Mr Beef Week crown.

Asked if he would do it again, he answered diplomatically: “We'll see what happens.”

Though he admits he has a new found respect for the women who normally take centre stage at similar, but more traditional, beauty contests.

“It's quite embarrassing,” he said.
