MP's son again falls afoul of law
EDWARD ‘Ned' Saffin, the son of Page MP Janelle Saffin, has pleaded guilty to ecstasy and cannabis drug offences in Lismore Local Court after he forgot he had ‘free' dope in his pocket.
Saffin, 26, of Lagoon Grass, who is in custody over an armed robbery charge, did not appear before magistrate Robyn Denes yesterday when the pleas were entered by his lawyer.
Saffin pleaded guilty to possession of six MDMA pills at the Wyrallah Road shopping centre at 3.30pm on June 30, and possession of cannabis at Lismore on July 15.
Agreed police facts state Saffin walked past undercover police at the Wyrallah Road shops carrying a bottle of beer when he yelled at a man seated in a car, ‘I was going to come over but I thought that was the f...ing cops there'.
Police described him as being very agitated. When officers went over to the car and asked if he had any illegal drugs on him, Saffin replied: ‘I've got nothing – you can search me'. They did.
Two weeks later Saffin was busted with a small quantity of cannabis.
That case was adjourned to November.
