MP delivers interchange petition

BALLINA MP Don Page has delivered a petition containing more than 1000 signatures opposing plans for a half-interchange at Bangalow when the Pacific Highway is upgraded between Ewingsdale and Tintenbar.

However, while debate over the Bangalow interchange has previously focused on whether the town should have a half or a full interchange, the new petition suggests it would be better off with no interchange at all.

The petition argues the RTA would be in breach of its own design guidelines by placing the Bangalow interchange within 10km of the Ewingsdale interchange, and that the project would increase air and noise pollution, create an eyesore, encourage heavy vehicle traffic and increase the risk of accidents.

Mr Page said he ‘generally’ agreed with the petition, saying the half-interchange plan ‘really just duplicates what already exists’.

“The half-interchange seems to be a waste of money,” he said.
