MOVIE REVIEW: Bad Santa 2
I KNEW this filthy film would be a review goldmine, but I never imagined it could be so twisted, so perverted and so, so bad.
In the first 10 minutes, it reminded me why Bad Santa (2003) was such a cult success: critics hated it but people loved the DVD, able to enjoy the pure raw awfulness of the first film in the privacy of their homes.
Why? Because the original, and this sequel, are anti-Christmas.
Now, why would people like this? I'll tell you why, because deep down some people hate Christmas.
Not the true meaning of Christmas, the Nativity and that, but what we have done with it: the rat race, the stress, and that awful, shiny veneer people insists on applying over everything.
Many are just over the decorations, the disappointing presents nobody likes, the oven-roasted dinner on a hot day with the relatives nobody likes.
Bad Santa 2 is the perfect film for those who feel alienated by the shiny poster that Xmas is these days: it exposes the ugly face of humanity at the time where we are meant to shine.
The film has Billy Bob Thornton back as Willie Soke, and brings in Cathy Bates as Suny, the mother from hell not even Bad Santa deserves.
I mean, seriously, Suny is truly the most awful mother ever depicted in the history of cinema. Ever.
And still Thornton and Bates, being the acting legends they are, make it work, somehow.
In Bad Santa 2 everyone is either a pervert, a con, an idiot, a liar, a cheat or a bad person.
The movie is not even funny, at all, except for the credits. Be advised they're as filthy as the film itself.
This is, by all means, a film you do not want to watch with your family.
