Movember says "Know Thy Nuts" for testicular cancer month

"KNOW Thy Nuts."

That is the latest message from the Movember Foundation.

April is Testicular Cancer Awareness Month and Movember is asking guys to get "friendly with your testes" in a bid to detect the cancer early.

"Give them a bit of a feel, it's the polite thing to do. If something doesn't feel right, go see a doctor," their website says.

Testicular cancer is the second most common cancer in young Australian men.

Ben Bowers was just 26 when he discovered a lump on one of his testicles.

"I went to the doctor and tests quickly showed that it was indeed cancer. It was caught early because I took action immediately," he told Movember.

But after having surgery to remove the testicle, within three years of being given the all clear, Ben discovered cancer on his other testicle.

"I discovered I had another cancer on my remaining testicle and that too had to be removed. This time however I did require further treatment and underwent an intensive regime of chemotherapy over four months.

"Cancer is a hell of a word. When they break it to you, it feels like your world is falling apart.

"To be told you have this life-threatening illness is a big shock. I'm encouraging everyone to get to know your nuts and raise awareness about testicular cancer, because with early detection, we can save lives," Ben said.

The foundation has released a hands-on-guide gents can download to "get the lowdown" on how to check one's "nuts".

The guide advises having a shower to loosen the testicles before rolling each one to check for any lumps, pain or swelling.

The foundation has also released a limited range of products specifically designed for Testicular Cancer Awareness Month.

Soap on a rope, boxer shorts and mo pin are now for sale on the Movember store to raise money for testicular cancer research and support services.
