Distracted driver causes "concertina" crash on Bruxner Hwy
UPDATE 11.10AM: A DISTRACTED driver ploughing into backed-up traffic was the cause of a multiple vehicle crash on the Bruxner Highway this morning.
A motorcyclist was one of six drivers impacted when an eastbound vehicle failed to stop before a backed up line of cars waiting for a car to turn off the highway at Lindendale.
Richmond Local Area Command Inspector Doug Conners said the driver "collided heavily with the rear vehicle, causing a chain reaction with six vehicles involved".
The resulting impact, described as a "concertina" crash, resulted in the motorcyclist, who was one of the stationary drivers, emerging the worst for wear.
"The cyclist was knocked from his bike and suffered shock and back pain and was conveyed to hospital for further treatment," Sgt Conners said.
The scene has since been cleared.
10.10AM: Traffic is flowing again on the Bruxner Highway in both directions between Goonellabah and Alstonville after a multiple vehicle collision this morning.
Lismore police Inspector Doug Conners said emergency services had managed to clear the site when a contra-flow was earlier put into place, with traffic now back to normal.
At its worst the peak hour crash caused long lines of traffic backed up as long as 5km right into Goonellabah.
8.50AM: A MOTORCYCLIST has been lucky to escape serious injury in a crash this morning on the Bruxner Highway at Wollongbar.
Several cars and a motorcycle are understood to be involved in the incident, in which no one was injured.
A NSW Ambulance spokesman said paramedics were called at 7.50am but their resources were not ultimately required at the scene.
Traffic has been brought to a standstill on the road between Goonellabah and Alstonville as firefighters and a tow truck clear the site.
Police have set up a contra-flow, however eastbound traffic is backed up for more than 5km past Holland St Goonellabah.
8.30AM: LIVE TRAFFIC is reporting that contra flow is in place, allowing one lane to be opened for traffic to pass through.
8.20AM: TRAFFIC is affected in both directions on the Bruxner Highway following a crash involving a motorcyclist at Wollongbar.
Eastbound traffic is banked up to the turn off at Richmond Hill Road.
Live Traffic is reporting the accident as being between a motorcycle and a car at the Lindendale Road intersection of the Bruxner Highway.
WEDNESDAY 8AM: A MOTORCYCLIST has been involved in a crash on the Bruxner Highway at Wollongbar, police have confirmed.
The conditions of those involved is not yet known.
