Look twice at 'mosaic' painting
CAN you see the familiar face?
Hailee Byrne hopes you can, when her technology-inspired portraits made from patined mosaic pieces open to the public as part of Southern Cross University's graduate art show, TRANSIT09.
The Coffs Coast-born artist is trying to smash stereotypes in her artwork.
“These have been painted from real people," Hailee, who was born in Dorrigo, said.
"You want to see a familiar face in there but somehow it eludes you and hopefully makes you think more about the identity of that person and who they really are."
TRANSIT 09 features the work of 50 new and emerging artists.
Exhibiting students come from Southern Cross University's entire geographic footprint - from the Mid North Coast to the Northern Rivers and beyond to the Tweed and Gold Coast areas.
