Revealed: The schools getting classroom aircon

THE full list of more than 900 schools across NSW to be upgraded with classroom airconditioning has been released by the State Government, including many schools in Sydney's west.

Under the $500 million plan, schools in areas like Penrith, Camden and Dubbo with an average maximum January temperature of 30 degrees or more are automatically entitled to the airconditioning.

Previously the Education Department's policy was an average maximum January temperature of 33 degrees.

Under the government's new policy, announced in June following the NSW Opposition's plan to spend $800 million airconditioning schools, other schools who don't automatically qualify can still apply on a "needs basis".

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian, visiting Casula High School, announced the full list of schools to receive the funding, saying it "was important for them to be comfortable inside the classroom".

"To ensure they can focus on their studies, especially during these hotter months of summertime," she said.

Work will be carried out over the Christmas holidays and during holiday periods next year, with the government expecting hundreds of schools to have the airconditioning up and running by year's end.

Education Minister Rob Stokes said solar panels and 'smart systems' would also be installed to help cut energy costs.

He said new schools automatically received the air-conditioning.

The NSW Opposition, when it announced its policy, released data showing only 97 of the 452 schools in Western Sydney were fully air cooled.

Schools that will have their classrooms and libraries airconditioned under round one of the plan include:
