Money disappears from accounts as bank investigates error

IF YOU are a Bank of Queensland customer, it might pay to check your balance.

One of Queensland's oldest financial institutions hit a major snag on the weekend with duplicate transactions appearing in some customers' accounts.

Kawana Island's Chris Bourke noticed hundreds of dollars had disappeared from his business account as a result of the error.

Bank of Queensland posted on its Facebook page that it was aware of the problem.

"We are aware that some customers have duplicate transactions appearing on their accounts," a post written early on Sunday read.

"We are investigating and working on a resolution for this with the highest priority.

"We will keep you updated here on our Facebook page."

An update was posted 10 hours later advising the bank was "still investigating the cause of the duplicate transactions".

It was working towards an "urgent resolution to reverse any unwarranted transactions".

Mr Bourke said when he spoke with the bank's customer service they could give him "no idea" when he might see his money back in his account.

"That's what is most disappointing, is the more communication in this regard," Mr Bourke said.

Other customers also vented their frustration on Facebook.

"My account is all messed up. And it wouldn't let me use my credit card last night," Crystal Nefarious wrote.

"Cheers for that! The taxi was not impressed when I couldn't pay him, especially since I'm overseas and he didn't speak English. I sure hope this all gets fixed up properly."

"This had best be fixed very quickly," Mel Stubbs wrote.

"I need the money from the duplicate payments to pay for and pick up my wedding dress first thing in the morning.

"Trust me you do not want a pregnant, stressed out bride calling."
