Women's bowls club turns 50

MONA Arandale is more than pleased that the Lennox Head Women’s Bowling Club turned 50 last week.

It’s not just because the 91-year-old is a keen bowler and plays every week, but she had a hand in getting the club off the ground.

Mona took the minutes at a meeting of 17 ladies held on February 25, 1960, which resolved that the Lennox Head Women’s Bowling Club be formed.

Mona was playing with the Bangalow club at the time, and lived at Knockrow.

The foundation Lennox Head Women’s Bowling Club members were invited to play at Bangalow until greens became available at Lennox Head.

Mona joined the Lennox Head club in 1972 after retiring to the coastal village.

The club now has 70 members.
