Moderate flood warning issued

A FLOOD warning for parts of the Northern Rivers has been upgraded following days of constant heavy rain.

At 4:50pm today, the Bureau of Meteorology issued a moderate flood warning for the Wilson and Richmond Rivers.

About 193 millimetres of rain has fallen in the area over the past 66 hours up until 9am today. However most of that fell in the last 30 hours.

It's predicted the Wilsons River at Lismore will peak at 8.4 metres at 9am tomorrow, causing moderate flooding.

The Richmond River will peak at 13.3 metres in Kyogle at 9pm tonight.

Coraki will be inundated with moderate flooding by 11pm tomorrow.

SES have been extremely busy today conducting a number of flood rescues around the Lismore and Murwillumbah areas.

This afternoon, a car carrying three people was swept off the road at Binna Burra.

The people managed to escape unharmed.

 The Tweed Valley has been issued with a major flood warning.

Chinderah and Fingal Head have been evacuated and evacuation centres have been established at Kingscliff TAFE

Murwillumbah is predicted to be inundated by major floodwaters at 8pm tonight.
