Lismore cattle sale

A TOTAL of 480 cattle were sold at Lismore saleyards on Tuesday.

Once again, there was a big variation in quality, with some very good grain-assisted vealers making to $1.90/kg, and plainer weaner heifers, suitable to feed, selling up to $1.74/kg.

Most vealers showing freshness and confirmation made from $1.75/kg, to $1.88/kg.

There was good competition on the better-bred weaners, but inferior types did not return a lot for the vendor.

The farmers that have bred the better cattle are getting the benefits of more competition.

Cows sold to a cheaper trend but good quality steers sold well, making to $1.52/kg.

With the shortage of grass at the moment, remember the old saying, 10 per cent less cattle, 10 per cent more profit.
