Mitcharlie Mia’s fairytale run ends in Golden Easter Egg

CASINO greyhound Mitcharlie Mia gave owner-trainer Mitch Northfield a fantastic run in reaching the Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg (520m) but there was no fairytale ending.

Mitcharlie Mia ($5.60) finished seventh of eight in the $350,000 race at Wentworth Park in Sydney on Saturday night, which offered $250,000 to the winner.

That winner was the Jason Thompson-trained Moreira ($3.20 favourite), which finished a neck in front of Brad Hill Billy ($6.60, Raymond Smith) with another five lengths back to Knight Sprite ($6.60, Gayle Masterson) third.

Moreira clocked 29.77 seconds for the 520m.

Mitcharlie Mia had finished second in one of the four semi-finals the previous week to qualify for the Golden Easter Egg.

Northfield, a regular at Northern Rivers tracks, prepares the greyhound at his kennels at Dobies Bight.

Racing will continue locally this week with meetings at Lismore tonight and at Casino on Friday.
