Missing woman mystery

THE fate of a woman believed to have gone missing after a late night swim at Byron Bay remained a mystery yesterday.

Witnesses saw a woman in her early 20s undress and walk into the surf late on Saturday night. They alerted police when they found her dress still on the beach an hour later.

Police said they had not received a missing persons report and called off their search early on Sunday after failing to find any trace of the woman.

Further west and police are also looking for the vandals responsible for trashing the Kyogle Public School at the weekend.

Sometime between Friday night and Sunday morning, two classrooms were broken into and computer equipment and furniture smashed.

Paint was also thrown around the room and taps were left on so the rooms were flooded. A Department of Education and Communities spokesman said most of the clean-up was done on Sunday but the classrooms won't be able to be used this week. Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800333000.
