Miss Universe on Coast

Forget expensive spa treatments and lounging around at five-star resorts, our Miss Universe Australia likes to ride with the best to unwind.

Kimberley Busteed was all glammed up on Saturday night to help judge Dancing With The Local Stars, but yesterday she let her hair down to chill out at Bli Bli’s Ski ’n’ Skurf with best friend Mimi Simpson.

Despite drawing international attention earlier this year by donning a surf lifesaving swimsuit at the Miss Universe pageant, Kimberley managed to fly under the radar.

With a hired wakeboard under one arm, she looked like any Coast gal out to enjoy a day in the sun.

Although her looks attracted the attention of local wakeboarders, none were aware they were in the presence of one of Australia’s hottest models.

"I don’t usually get recognised anywhere except my hometown, Gladstone," Kimberley said.

"People usually recognise my face, but they think I’m from Big Brother."

The former receptionist became hooked on wakeboarding after friends introduced her to the sport two years ago.

"I was always a water baby," Kimberley said. "I love wakeboarding. .... I don’t get to do it often enough."

Ski ’n’ Skurf cable technicians were delighted by Kimberley’s spontaneous decision to visit.

"We don’t really get famous people here, except for pro boarders," Scott Windred said.

James Boggia added: "Normally they make a huge fuss when they come, but Kimberley just rocked up and had fun.""It’s kind of cool to see a chick like her doing a sport like wake boarding."

The Brisbane-based model left the Coast yesterday afternoon to attend an Indy function on the Gold Coast.

With a trip to the Bahamas sceduled for later this year, a lot more is in store for the young beauty, who hopes to follow in the footsteps of former Miss Universe Jennifer Hawkins and become a travel presenter.
