THE WINNER of the North Coast National Miss Showgirl competition for 2013 is Mykaella Gosper of Blakebrook.

The 22 year-old is a keen horse rider and was taking part in a hacking competition in the morning prior to the announcement of the winner.

"Hacking is a bit like dressage except we have no knowledge of the workout before the event. The horse has to be trained to a certain level, so they do what they are asked when they are asked," she explained.

In fact Mykaella has been taking part in hacking competitions at the show since she was 12 years old and was a part of the show, Hooves of Thunder in 2009 and 2012.

Born at Beaudesert, Mykaella and her family moved when she was just six-months-old. Both of her grandfathers had beef cattle, but her parents are now running a call centre while Mykaella is trying to get a horse agistment business off the ground.

She said she entered the Miss Showgirl competition "to gain a bit of confidence and to get a bit more involved in the North Coast National".

She will now go on to the regional final at Taree in February.

"It's an incredible experience and I would recommend it to any girl who wants to be in the agricultural scene," she said.

"You don't have to be involved (in agricultural industries), you just need to have an interest in the show itself and promoting it to the public".
