Mentor confirms season over for Buddy Franklin

SUPERSTAR forward Buddy Franklin will not play again this season, regardless of whether the Sydney Swans make the grand final.

Franklin took indefinite leave last week after revealing he was battling mental health issues, with coach John Longmire telling reporters the triple Coleman Medallist was out for 2015.

"Lance won't be playing for the rest of the season. We're mindful of his mental health issue and it's something that needs to be addressed," the coach said.

"That's his main priority, to get that right, so footy is not on the agenda for Lance for the rest of the season."

The Swans managed just 7.18 in their nine-point loss to Fremantle in Saturday's qualifying final in Franklin's absence, Kurt Tippett leading the way with three goals.

Tippett, Adam Goodes and Dean Towers will again be called on to provide tall targets in attack against the Kangaroos in Saturday night's semi-final. Sydney is also likely to be without midfield stars Luke Parker (leg) and Kieren Jack (knee) while defender Nick Smith (hamstring) could return after missing two games.

The Swans not only lost the qualifying final to the Dockers in Perth, they also lost key position player Sam Reid who tore a hamstring in the second quarter.

Meanwhile, North Melbourne small forward Lindsay Thomas can accept a $1000 fine for shoving a boot in the chest of Richmond's Dylan Grimes in Sunday's elimination final.

Thomas was reported for rough conduct but the Match Review Panel decided the degree of force was not enough to warrant a suspension.
