Mental a local hit

MENTAL, the movie that has put Evans Head - well, the bridge at least - on the map has been labelled a winner with the locals.

Since filming took place on the bridge leading to South Evans Head in September last year, there was plenty of star-spotting and anticipation at what the PJ Hogan-directed movie would be like when it was finished.

Now that it's playing in cinemas, reviews have been positive.

"(I) will definitely be seeing the movie again," Rebecca Yourell of Evans Head said.

"(I) laughed for at least half the movie."

Others agreed, with another Evans Head local, Kaya Maxwell, going twice in a couple of weeks to see it.

"It's very Aussie and funny, although not suitable for children," she said.

"I will buy it when it comes out on DVD."

Allyson Cuskelly, of Evans Head, was impressed with Toni Collette's role in the movie.

"It's very 'Collette'. If you are a fan you will love it," she said.

"I could have walked back in and watched it over again straight away."

Many were impressed that they were able to recognise scenes from Evans Head in the movie.

"There was lots of footage of the bridge," Amy Dorey, of Broadwater, said.

Mental is playing at Lismore and Ballina cinemas and is rated MA.

It stars Toni Collette, Rebecca Gibney, Anthony LaPaglia and Liev Schreiber.
