Melt showcases local talent and a tale of personal growth
LOCAL talent will be showcased in a number of films screened at this year's Byron Bay Film Festival.
One of those films is Melt, by US-based director Minka Bleakley and starring Byron Bay's Ilona Harker and Dorroughby's Tommy Brogden.
Melt follows the story of Lena (Harker), a disillusioned teenager searching for balance in her life and growing weary of her unconventional upbringing.
With the arrival of Artie, a flamboyant and exuberant family friend, Lena's delicately poised world is thrown askew.
As she is forced to endure an unorthodox Christmas with a group of irresponsible adults, she is pushed to evaluate the role of family and the environment she was raised in.
Constantly let down by the people around her, Lena struggles to find her place among her bright and brazen surrounds.
"Melt is a statement on the nuances of youth on the brink of adulthood, a meditation on the relationships we build and destroy," said Bleakley.
