Veteran duo takes victory

VETERAN Lismore duo Lisa Cottee and Diana Foley walked away with three medals each from the Lismore rowing regatta at Coraki.

They took out the women's fours, mixed fours and quad sculls.

"The fours was probably our best win because we went up against girls that are young pups compared to us," Cottee said.

"We've been racing together since 2000 and it's always good to get a medal."

Cottee, who is also president of the Lismore Rowing Club, was thrilled with the success of the event.

"It was perfect conditions and the river looked brilliant," she said.

"We had around 150 competitors and that was about 30 more than we expected.

"We didn't have any crashes but there were some exciting finishes."

Emily Carey (Tweed Heads) had a massive afternoon, winning four medals.

The 16-year-old won the Under-17 single, double, mixed double and women's open scull.

Lismore teenagers Calla Gould-Whaley and Jayden Bezuidenholt also won women's novice events.

Anyone looking to join the Lismore club can attend beginner classes on the first Sunday of each month from 8am.

Inquiries to Cottee on 0412-599113 or Foley on 0427-895622.
