Mead receives good news on knee injury

RUGBY LEAGUE: Brisbane recruit David Mead should be free to play in the Auckland Nines or the Broncos' first practice match despite suffering a knee injury this week.

The winger was forced off the field during a training session on Monday after clashing with a teammate, but scans have cleared him of any major damage.

"He may have to be kept out of a session or two, but we expect he will be right to play in the trials,” Broncos high performance manager Jeremy Hickmans said.

"Fortunately, the hard work he has done in the pre-season means missing a session or two will not impact him physically.”

The 28-year-old shifted to the Broncos late last year from Gold Coast.

Brisbane will name its squads next week for its February 4 trial against Cronulla and the Nines tournament over the same weekend.
