M’bah rings in 2016 with family-friendly race day

MURWILLUMBAH'S last meeting of its big summer program will get underway on Sunday with a seven race program.

It includes the running of the feature 1530m New Year open handicap to welcome in the 2016 racing calendar.

Acceptances will be declared tomorrow to account for the New Year public holiday.

It will be the second meeting at Murwillumbah in a week, after last Sunday's Pottsville Beach Sports Club and Pottsville Business Houses race day, which was conducted on a racing surface ranging from slow to heavy.

The feature 2020m Pottsville Beach Sports Club Cup was taken out by Whispering Tess in an impressive go-to-whoa victory courtesy some impressive riding by apprentice Brooke Ainsworth.

This Sunday's event will feature full TAB facilities and a strong bookmakers ring.

It is set to be a family-friendly affair, with live music throughout the afternoon along with children's entertainment and jumping castle with Aussie Bouncin Bites.

Gates open at noon and the first race is at 2pm. Last race at 6.30pm.

Admission is $15 for adults, while entry is free for children aged under 16 who are accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Murwillumbah's next race meet will be held on March 8.
