Mates helping mates in need

IMAGINE Jesus in overalls, as a mate helping a mate.

That is the picture of organisation Global Care, the social justice and disaster relief arm of International Network of Churches (INC), formerly Christian Outreach Centre, according to national director Peter Pilt.

"We have 74 operations around Australian and one is in Casino at the Heartlands Church," he said.

Mr Pilt said the local Global Care operations worked within the communities to find what need was greatest, whether cleaning houses or running a shelter for domestic violence victims.

Mr Pilt and 11 other bike riders visited Casino last month as part of the Global Care bike ride, covering 2300km in 13 days.

"We started from Tweed Heads and finished at the 12 Apostles (Victoria)," he said.

"We raised around $22,000, a little less than last year."Mr Pilt said while having a night's stop over in Casino they stayed at the Big4 resort and met many of the local people.
