Market takes off
THE inaugural markets at Woodburn were held the day before Mother's Day behind the Rod n Reel with a range of items for sale.
Stallholder Sue McCowan said for a first market it hadn't been too bad.
"I have had a really good and busy day," she said.
"I'm surprised for a first market.
"It's been mostly locals but some people who have stopped for coffee on their way through Woodburn have filtered through to the market, thanks to the signs."
Being the owner of Simply Fashion and Beauty at Wardell, Ms McCowan was selling a large range of clothes and accessories.
"I have been doing markets for two years and am usually at the Evans Head markets too," she said.
"I sell clothes from sizes 8 to 24 and cater for all ages."
Treasurer of the Woodburn Chamber of Commerce Pam Bellingham was pleased with the day.
"I think it was quite successful," she said.
"It was quiet but that's because we didn't do a lot of advertising but we will have done plenty more next time."
Ms Bellingham said there was room for more stalls as well.
"Some of the people couldn't come for the first markets but will be at the next ones."
The markets will be on every second Saturday of the month, with the next event on the June long weekend.
"People say it's good to have another local market," Ms Bellingham said.
"They are happy to go along to both (Evans Head and Woodburn)."
