‘Bomber’ Thompson flees country after drug raid

AFL legend Mark "Bomber" Thompson has been spotted leaving the country only 10 days after his home was raided as part of a drug investigation.

Thompson, 54, was arrested before being released without charge, pending further inquiries.

The former Essendon and Geelong coach reportedly left Melbourne before 4pm yesterday, the Herald Sun said.

He was photographed at Auckland airport before boarding a flight bound for the United States.

The former Geelong and Essendon coach had his Port Melbourne property raided on Friday, January 5 at 9.30am.

"All we've done so far is confirm that we did execute warrants at that premises and that he came (Thompson) and spoke to our police," Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton told reporters.

"The investigations on that case, I'm told, are continuing.

"We need the investigation still to run its course. We are not providing further commentary on top of what's happened to date."

Three people have been charged with drug trafficking following Friday's raid at Port Melbourne and another search at Geelong.

They include Thomas Windsor, 28, who was reportedly staying at Thompson's renovated warehouse at Port Melbourne.

A 31-year-old Lara man and a 22-year-old Mill Park woman were also charged.

Media reports suggest Windsor and the Lara man, named as Karl Holt, have bikie links in the Geelong area.

The trio were remanded in custody and are due to face court at Geelong at a later date.

Police said the arrests were part of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking.

It's unclear how Thompson is allegedly connected, if at all.
