Ballina Boat and Leisure show scrapped despite success
MARINE Rescue Ballina will not hold its popular Boat and Leisure Show this year, despite previous success.
Last year, for the first time, the show was on the riverbank at Fawcett Park on the last weekend of September.
Thanks to fine weather and the event coinciding with the North Coast Fishing Bonanza, more than 5000 people attended the show, helping raise money for the Marine Rescue unit.
But Marine Rescue has decided not to go ahead this year.
Commander John Donoghue said it had been a tough call.
"We deeply regret not being able to hold the Ballina Boat and Leisure Show this year," Mr Donoghue said.
"It is due to circumstances beyond our control. Organising such a big event takes a lot of work and Marine Rescue is staffed only by dedicated volunteers.
"We would like to thank all those people who have supported our event in the past, including patrons, exhibitors and sponsors."
The unit has not ruled out holding another boat show in the future.
