Margaret, 83, wins medals in international tennis comp
SHOWING that age is no barrier, 83-year-old Byron Bay tennis player Margaret Fisher is back from the ITF Super-Seniors World Championships in Turkey.
Margaret was one of 630 players from 37 countries aged 60 to 85 who took part.
She competed in 14 matches, including a singles encounter against Germany's Anita Fischer, and played against the United States to win a bronze medal in thewomen's doubles.
She returned with two bronze medals for her efforts - and some sore muscles.
She was sponsored by aged care provider Feros Care, whose chief executive Jennene Buckley said she was in awe of the performance.
"Margaret made a comeback to tennis just five years ago to take part in the Super Seniors competition," Buckley said.
"The participants were an incredible show of strength, will and health.
"When Margaret first competed five years ago there were four teams competing in the Over-80s; this year there were eight teams.
"Her ambition is to next year train for and compete in the Over-85s."
