Many residents still without power after last night's storms

THERE are 2,500 Essential Energy customers are without power this morning following the storms that rolled across the North Coast yesterday.

The storm blew vegetation into, and brought down, powerlines causing widespread damage, primarily affecting the power supply to customers in Lismore, Ewingsdale, Ballina, Suffolk Park, and surrounding areas, and as far south as Coffs Harbour.

At the height of the storm 9,800 customers were without power throughout the Northern Rivers area.

Crews were quick to respond, patrolling lines and surveying damage, with repairs overnight restoring power back to over 7,000 customers.

Extra crews, from across the North Coast, are travelling to the affected area this morning to assist local teams.

Customers are reminded to stay at least eight metres away from fallen powerlines and to call Essential Energy on 13 20 80.
