Brookfarm production boss named Young Manager of the Year

HE MIGHT be the son of the owners, but Brookfarm production manager Will Brook works just as hard as anyone else.

In fact, his efforts have been recognised by the Australian Institute of Management, which recently named him the Young Manager of the Year.

This award acknowledges rising stars and aspiring leaders who are making their mark in their industry.

It is part of AIM's commitment to "recognising, educating and developing Generation Y who have been in the workplace for five to eight years".

Will has been involved in the family business, Brookfarm, since day one.

The company is now one of Australia's leading producers of premium quality macadamia products, but the family started out in 2000 selling muesli at the Bangalow markets.

Co-founders Martin and Pam Brook said Will had always helped with baking, labelling, packing and selling at the markets.

Now he manages a team of 30 employees.

"Being a family business I have been involved with all aspects of our operation," he said.

"It's been a great training ground and my parents have instilled in me that you should always work cooperatively and always strive for excellence."

Will's father, Martin Brook, said he was proud of his son.

"It's fantastic recognition of his management skills and his hard work and commitment over the years," he said.

"It's also acknowledgment of the outstanding business skills in our local area."

As regional winner, Will now proceeds directly to the state awards, with a gala dinner to be held in Brisbane on November 8.
