Pair allegedly kidnapped 48yo man

A VICIOUS attack during an alleged kidnapping in Byron Bay on Thursday night has left a 48-year-old man in hospital.

Tweed/Byron police allege the victim went to a second floor unit in a block of flats on Bangalow Road about midnight, where he was hit and kicked a number of times and threatened with a knife by a man and a woman.

The victim was allegedly forced into a car and then left on a nature strip in Beech Drive with a broken nose, ankle and wrist.

Police have arrested a 24-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman after issuing a crime scene warrant at a Bangalow Road address.

Yesterday, the shabby two-storey brick block of units where the alleged incident began was in lock-down while a team of forensic investigators conducted inquiries.

Neighbours expressed shock to hear about the alleged kidnapping.

“You’re kidding,” one resident of five years said.

“I have never heard of anything like that happening around here before.”

Another neighbour said the block of flats where the kidnapping was alleged to have taken place attracted ‘marginal types’ who were often seen sitting outside on the street.

Police and ambulance officers were called to the scene and the man was taken to Tweed Heads Hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries.

His injuries are not considered serious.

Meanwhile, last night on Bangalow Road at Howards Grass, two cars collided with cattle which had broken through fencing and were on the road.
