Man wields Stanley knife in Lismore CBD daylight attack

A 30-year old man will face court in Lismore today after allegedly attempting to assault a another man with a Stanley knife at the Lismore Transit Centre on Molesworth St yesterday.

Police will allege that around 2.40pm the man, wielding the large Stanley knife, tried to assault the 32-year-old victim who was waiting for his bus.

The victim was forced to use a nearby shopping trolley to protect himself.

Patrolling police heard the commotion and when they arrived the assailant turned his knife on them.

One of the officers took hold of the man, and managed to secure the knife and prevent any further assaults.

Cheers were then heard as the man was handcuffed and conveyed to Lismore Police Station.

He was been charged with several offences, including armed with intent, resisting and intimidating police, malicious damage, and affray.

He was refused bail and will appear before Lismore Local Court today.
