Man Utd legends to play charity game Down Under

A HOST of Manchester United icons will come to Australia next month when a Legends side takes on an all-star side of former Australians in Perth.

Former Red Devils stars including Paul Scholes, Dwight Yorke, Denis Irwin and Teddy Sheringham are all reportedly set to head Down Under to face a Professional Footballers Australia Legends team coached by ex-Socceroos and Sydney FC boss Frank Farina.

The West Australian reports Scholes - who made 718 appearances and scored 155 goals in a 20-season career - is expected to play in the game.

The Manchester United Legends will be playing to raise funds for the Manchester United Foundation, which has selected local charity DT38 Foundation as one of those that will benefit.

The DT38 Foundation was set up in honour of Dylan Tombides, after the former West Ham and Young Socceroos striker passed away after a battle with testicular cancer aged 20 in 2014.

"It's an honour for our family to have Dylan's foundation to be selected as one of the nominated charities that will benefit from such a momentous occasion," said Jim Tombides, Dylan's father.

Bryan Robson will be coaching the Manchester United Legends, with the game to be played at nib Stadium on Saturday, March 25.

It follows the previous announcement that English Premier League giant Chelsea will play a high-profile pre-season friendly against the Perth Glory in 2018, with a crowd of 65,000 expected.
